SCR UPGRADES

GCI has been supplying analog SCR upgrades to the drilling industry for over 15 years. Today we also offer a complete range of digital SCR upgrades through our exclusive alliance agreement with ABB.

The GCI/ABB Alliance offers three levels of Digital SCR Upgrades resulting in improved system performance, higher reliability, better control, serial communication capability and plain English user interface.

The quickest and most cost effective solution is the installation of an ABB “Digital SCR Rebuild Kit” (DCR 800). This is a standardized digital control kit that replaces the old obsolete analog control system on your existing SCR system.

The second level, recommended for older SCR systems, include the replacement of the complete SCR power electronics. A single compact ABB, DCS 800, digital SCR module installs easily in the existing bay replacing the obsolete analog SCR.

We also deliver complete digital ABB SCR systems installed in space efficient enclosures. This solution is ideal for older systems where the existing enclosures are not suitable for reuse.

We continue to provide analog upgrades using either the GCI Analog SCR Controller or “SCR clones” for customers preferring a traditional solution.

SCR Houses, VFD Houses and SCR House Upgrades ...
GCI has been supplying analog SCR Houses to the drilling industry for over 20 years.
Today we also offer the more reliable and more cost efficient digital SCR houses through our exclusive alliance agreement with ABB.

The same reliable technology that has been used for offshore applications for almost 20 years is now available from the GCI/ABB Alliance at a price level that is equal or less than traditional analog technology. The SCR modules are simply more compact, easier to install and requires a minimum of wiring.

The modularized DCS800 SCR has a smaller foot print than traditional analog systems resulting in a more compact SCR house.

The GCI SCR Houses are delivered complete with generator control, plug panel, MCC’s and any other required equipment. Our experienced and flexible design engineers work closely with the customer and will always comply with specifications.

The GCI Digital SCR solutions provide excellent reliability and a platform that is easily integrated into today's and future requirements for data acquisition and remote monitoring.

We also provide traditional GCI designed Analog SCR systems, or clones, for customers preferring a “Classic” solution.
VFD HOUSE

Today GCI offer offer a complete range of Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) systems through our exclusive alliance agreement with ABB.

In line with our philosophy of being a total partner to our customers the GCI/ABB Alliance offer a complete portfolio of VFD solutions from Top Drive Houses to complete AC Drill rig solutions.

The breakthrough for AC drilling drives came in 1994 when ABB delivered the world’s first AC Drilling Drive system to the “Troll A Platform” in the North Sea. This first delivery quickly revealed all of the advantages of AC drilling drives.

ABB’s Drilling Drive systems offer responsive, high accuracy speed and torque control and have superior dynamic characteristics in the entire range from zero to maximum speed.

Matched up with ABB’s specially designed AC drilling motors the system can hold the drill string stationary at full torque without having to be unloaded using a clutch and brake.

The GCI/ABB VFD solutions provides improved drilling performance, faster rig-up/rig-down, excellent reliability and a platform that is easily integrated into today’s and future requirements for data acquisition and remote monitoring.
