GCI announces completion of system upgrade for Noble Drilling, USA

GCI has installed and commissioned a Digital SCR and Generator Controls Upgrade for Noble Drilling, USA. The upgrade was made on a legacy International Switchboard Corporation (ISC) Type II control system.  The existing SCR controls were replaced with an ABB DCR 500 rebuild kit designed to provide modern controls and technology while utilizing the existing power section components (SCR Bridge); the existing analog Engine-Generator components were also replaced with a digital Basler voltage regulator and Woodward digital governor module providing a modern control and protection scheme.  Communication lines between the SCR room and the Drill floor were upgraded to fiber optic cable providing a high speed noise free channel.

A third Generator control bay and custom 480VAC switchgear were also installed and incorporated into the existing lineup. These additions will provide the rig with additional power required to accommodate modern drilling programs. 

The installation and upgrade was performed via shipyard availability in Pascagoula, MS.
